Invoke the Shakti within…
What is Ghatasthapana? (घटस्थापना क्या है?)
Ghatasthapana is the ritual that marks the beginning of Navratri. It is the sacred act of invoking Goddess Durga into a Kalash (sacred pot) — symbolizing divine energy, fertility, and purity. This Kalash becomes the seat of Durga Maa for 9 days, and is worshipped daily with utmost devotion.
It is performed during a specific muhurta on the first day (Pratipada) of Navratri, and sets the spiritual tone for the entire nine days of worship.
Significance of Ghatasthapana
• Ghatasthapana is the official invitation to Durga Maa to come and bless your home.
• The Kalash represents the cosmic womb – from where all creation emerges.
• The sprouting of barley (जौ) during Navratri represents new beginnings and prosperity.
• Worshipping the Kalash brings Shakti, positivity, and divine protection for the next 9 days and beyond.
